Absence 03:43
Tighten the veil around my eyes until I can see This vacuum of silence inside me that devours everything It takes conscious effort not to reach the bitter end Where I cannot fathom beginning this ever or again A spiral of Darkness entangles and smothers me The absence is frightening it’s devoid of all humanity So, I cling to all I love In my pursuit of true happiness There is a house high above, Lofty ideals and time’s velvet glove I know if I wait for the light to focus My paradigm will shift to reveal Another way to perceive things And make a change
2.
Obvious 03:49
Don’t be so obvious This soon will end like cars crashing In the dark as you sleep Languid and lifeless doll Dreaming a dream that you are Every single drop of rain Eyes of a sailor guided by a scrim of stars Touch and go meanders the path of a broken heart Night sky is silent and still as a photograph Gives me the shivers of walking on broken glass Time is a jailor when put down in black and white In-between seconds the days turn to sleepless nights Long sleeves and sweaters regret is a cache of scars Arms length beside you arranged in small ornate jars

When the Beagle drops it’s anchor Darwin collects ancient fossils There’s dispute of sovereignity Las Malvinas Argentinas Paraiso en ruinas Isla de el mar y de el sol On first glance upon the island Darwin comments sort of sighing, “Quietest place we have ever been.” Torturados y esclavos Pobre guachos que usaron En 1833 Never-mind these ruthless oceans Whose shores aren’t yours These shores aren’t yours
4.
Into the room you stumbled dimly “I love this song,” and then you kissed me Tender and sweet or so I remember When we were young charming and clever Paperbacks piled up on the dresser Twain and Voltaire by your parents’ picture An old black in white in formal attire Two fresh face kids brighter than diamonds Curtains were drawn to keep the city At bay till dawn, until we were ready All romantics often remember When they were young, charming, and clever Has this room gone cold now? In passing I wonder
5.
Sisyphus 03:26
Kill or be killed All good carnies know the deal When they’re begging for their meals Just to keep their bellies filled Big top is drawing them in And the midway seems so dim Sisyphus as a clown Has his futile routine down Austere girl in slacks Made her fortune on her back Singing jazz or was it blues Wearing ballerina shoes Deus ex machina Giving shameless curtain calls Grand Guignol center stage The absurd and the insane Hearts and circles drag the earth in, Satellite they turn just like broken records I’ve got the questions if you’ve got the answers Do bruised knees bring the faithful enlightenment? Has rapture called them home?
6.
Paper Tiger 03:14
Tide’s been laying low Beach sand turns to stone Your eyes fell back to the sea Ocean’s salty breath you breathe Every word you’d say Sacred and profane Paper tiger catches me Brings me tumbling to my knees Below the surface Cracks split into rifts Granite smiles and plaster feet Statues stay as people leave Clock’s ticking away Dials are razorblades Time won’t wait or turn around I’m the fall and you’re the ground to me
7.
Eloquent and wise These truths are told as stories And I can’t seem to grasp The meaning of the words and their depth Preterite defense Hindsight’s twenty-twenty When you’re holding your breath Waiting for these chores to turn into gifts Forty days and nights Through strife and self reflection A martyr ascends Canonical gospels give us life in his death Please tell me why you weep Reposed at your saviors feet Whose death was not in vein Who will live and die again Eminently wise There’s truth in prose and stories Though they tend to rely On mnemonic devices for the words and intent

Sullen stranger keeps his head down as he moves Past the headstone’s garden graveyard Strewn with blooms, gone to soon, summer blooms Hedonism’s misconception paves the way “He sure was a handsome devil,” They will say when they say what they’ll say Surprise, surprise You lived, you died Like day was night Surprise, surprise Patron saint of self indulgence finds a way To bear witness and take poor souls pain away Just like magic when you open up your eyes Smoke and mirrors hide the dreary Face that lies just behind all those lies Surprise, surprise You lived your life Away from light Surprise, surprise
9.
Holding my breath as you slip in pajamas I’ll wrap you in bliss and I’ll bury my sadness like bones… like a bone Don’t tie your ring to a tether of chance Because chains break away but the strings are attached as you know All the same, I’d like to try and shout your name As you come back home, oh so late And throw your rotten clothes in the street With all your girlfriends Mattress is drenched with the bodily fluids Of the selfish remains of a soul left in ruins, Alone… all alone Pale through the window, the faintest of light It catches your hair turning colorless white like the snow Such a shame, hold your tongue Don’t you look away as I dry my face And hope you’ll stay Put my heart and soul in these Random nights in your bed Shakespeare’s reading tales of Capulets Held as pretense or misprinted text Francis Bacon’s missing manuscript Speaks of young love before modern sin
